Blog Evaluation

Looking at all my work I believe my strongest pieces of work in my portfolio is my written work / marketing work. This work exceeds my personal achievements as I put so much work into being forward thinking and diverse in work, trying to come up with distinctive and new ideas that show my skills in a certain way. Creating my own brand and being able to promote this work is definately one of my strongest piece is my portfolio. I have developed this my using my visual merchandising skills and producing my own shop window based on my branded theme ‘Blurred Lines.’ My magazine editorial is a very strong piece of work as well.
There a few elements of my portfolio which I have personalised to suit me and my way of working. I did this by using my initiative and producing work based on my career choice. I created a body of work based on Fashion Marketing and Communication – this includes; my promotional campaign, photography, my own brand commercial, my personal fashion blog, and magazine editorial. All this works shows my passion for fashion marketing, you can clearly define the different strengths from this work to my design work.

Weakness in my work are shown through my designs and textile pieces. I find designing and textiles very boring and repetitive – it’s almost one part of the fashion industry I don’t want to work in. you can tell the difference between my design work and my written work – it’s a lot stronger. However, all my design work and mixed media work has all been produced or scanned through by photoshop – I could improve my work by trying to create some of these pieces by hand to show diversity.

I have put exceptional amounts of effort and time to make sure this project is to my own professional standard. I have made sure every piece of work is made to same standard and makes my skills shine through the best pieces of work. My time has been managed well – I have produced a portfolio of my best work, a reflective journal and a folder of research and inspirational thoughts in depth.
I have a folder along with this blog, showing all my inspirations and more detailed break down of my portfolio as a whole. Alongside this I have annotated why I haven't included certain pages in my E-Portfolio.

Fashion Promotion and Styling

In our portfolio, we had to include our fashion promotion & styling project. We had to choose a collection and a store to create our own promotional campaign. I choose to study the store ZARA enticed with Street Style – for my promotional campaign I included;
  • Business Card
  • Logo
  • Swing Tag
  • Press Release
  • Look Book
Advertisement

This is my own advert I have created for my own promotional campaign as my theme ZARA Street Style AW17. My advert was based on a new collection.
I wanted to put my own photography in the background, the picture I used I didn’t like at first purely because the light was shining on one of the models and it didn’t look effective. However, fading out the picture made it look better and a lot more effective.
I added the logo I made for Zara in the top left hand corner which looks quite effective as its going across my photography and the white canvas. I have also advertised my look book within the small print on my advert. I am pleased with my outcome of my advertisement, I think it stands out quite a lot.
Business Card

This is another business card design which I much prefer and I have chosen as my final piece. I much prefer this business card because I have used a picture in the background, which is the same picture as the front of my look book but in black and white. I have still used my logo and the same detail on the back of the business card apart from it’s on a black background.
Logo

This is my logo I have created as part of my promotional campaign for my Zara Street Style collection.

The original logo for ZARA is extremely plain as it is literally just the title stating ‘ZARA’. So, for my campaign I need to make my logo look slightly edgier. So, I simply got the standard ZARA sign and in the original font; I started messing around with it on photoshop using different brushes and techniques. I simply drew a cross underneath the sign and I really liked it. It’s very simple and uneven but it makes it look quite distinctive.
Swing Tag

This is my final swing tag design. In the end, I used a street style picture from my photoshoot faded out in the background with my logo on top. I did this so it goes with my promotional campaign. I think my swing tag looks effective and simple. I have added the sizes of the certain garment underneath which cover the sizes in different countries including; United Kingdom, Europe, United States, and Australia. The back of my swing tag is very plain just black and white, this is so it doesn’t distract the information. I got this inspiration from the Topshop swing tags. The information on the back of my swing tags include; ZARA logo, line number, barcode, price, and sizes. I am overall happy with the outcome of my swing tag, it goes with my promotional package well.

Press Release

This is my press release for my own promotional campaign which is all about Zara Street Style AW17. I have kept this very simple so it stands out; I have used the lines going down and across the page as I have used these on my look book which look quite cool. I have used my logo I made else well. I have written the press release as promoting my new collection and promoting look books in store.
Look Book

I went to shoot a photoshoot in Birmingham which was in digbeth were there is a lot of graffiti on the street and as my theme was ‘Street Style’ this was a perfect location. We also went to the ground of Birmingham university to take some shots by the autumn tree to display my trend is Autumn / Winter. I took all my picture on an iPhone 6. When making the production of my look book I came across a lot of different problems and I had to do a lot of planning for each page. To send my look book off to be printed I had to create a look book of 22 pages so I had to add some blank pages and more pages full of pages.

Metallic Addict Designs

In my portfolio, we had to include work from year one, so one of the projects I decided to include was our Sustainability project which I have renamed ‘Metallic Addict.’ I choose to include a mood board and designs for this theme as I love the bright colours involved – as its iridescence involved.

These are my final designs they are a lot neater and more professional than previous.
For this design board, I have used the same background and bottom border as my mood board to keep everything consistent. I have added a skin tone colour to my models so they more efficient and stand out more from the background. The garments I have designed have been filled with patterns from bright iridescence patterns. I am happy with the title of this of the design board as well. I decided to leave the faces blank so it doesn’t distract my designs.

Metallic Addict Mood Board

This is my final mood board for the theme ‘Metallic Addict’ inspired by sustainable fashion. As my title is all about metallic I thought I would highlight metallic fashion through picture on my mood board. I have 3 squared images on this mood board but they have been broken up by being different sizes / layers and pattern background. I like the font of my title for this mood board, its funky and quirky which screams sustainable fashion.

Life Drawings

In year one we studied fashion illustration, in one of the modules we had to create life drawings from watching a live model. I wanted to record my life drawing in my portfolio, however the drawings I drew last year were horrendous and so small in a way I couldn’t possibly improve them. So, after going online and finding inspiration I found some live model images which I could redraw the silhouette. First, I drew them on paper, scanned them in and went over them on photoshop while adding the small details in neater.

Overall, I am happy with how my life drawings from been produced. Considering what they were like last year I’ve made huge improvement as I’ve learnt a whole lot of new skills. Editing my life drawings on photoshop made them look a lot more outlined and structure. I like the hair of my models and I really think it helps finish my drawings.

Earthy Minerals Designs

For my portfolio, I have included work created in year one, one of the project I have included is my trend design project called ‘Earthy Minerals.’ I have put a trend board and a range of designs in my portfolio to support this work. I liked this project earthy minerals as you can create elegant designs from the flow of the sea. There is a lot opportunity for exploration in this project.

This is my final design board to go with my trend board. I have used the rocks from my trend board for my design to be on top of – I really like this. I still have used the same figure template as it goes with my theme, I have filled the hair in black to define the models and the black really goes with the rocky colour. Each design is different and all has a different on them. I have pulled out patterns from various images online based on the theme ‘Earthy Minerals’ and inserted them into the garments.

Earthy Minerals Mood Board

For my portfolio, I have included work created in year one, one of the project I have included is my trend design project called ‘Earthy Minerals.’ I have put a trend board and a range of designs in my portfolio to support this work. I liked this project earthy minerals as you can create elegant designs from the flow of the sea. There is a lot opportunity for exploration in this project.

This is my final mood board and its completely different for all the rest. I thought as I’m trying to display the theme ‘Earthy Minerals’ to many images can look tacky. As there is only so much sea and pictures of mountains I can put in until its look crowded. So instead I decided to create a trend board – I used one picture of the sea and another of some rocks. I smudged them together to create a waved effect. I gathered all the colours to do with this theme to add the different colour palettes in my trend board.
